Diego Simeone has taken a step to becoming Arsene Wenger’s successor as the Argentine reduced his contract with Atletico Madrid by two years. The Gunners board have tipped the highly-rated Roji Blancos boss as the ideal candidate for Wenger when his contract expires in 2017.

Simeone has negotiated his 2020 stay at the Vicente Calderon to 2018, but will remain the highest paid coach in La Liga – and a club hiring his services will pay a lower amount as compensation.
